DEREL LAWRENCE

A music teacher who lives in Essex, UK, Derek has been involved in music at all levels ever since he was little, starting with listening to his father playing saxophone in dance bands. Derek’s musical life commenced with the sound of forties bee-bop. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London before going on to become a teacher, school principal and education administrator.

Now retired he has the time to concentrate on serious composition and this piano concerto in Db is one of a number of commissions in the classical vein. Among his other varied compositions he has produced choral music for a male voice choir, orchestral music for a youth orchestra and a pop song for an aspiring New York girl band!
